Locker Rooms

Since I have just joined a gym, it's no surprise that I am now using a locker room there. When I toured the gym, I thought they were some of the nicest looking locker rooms I had seen. Nice carpeting in there, plenty of lights, mirrors, sinks, get ready areas, and big wooden lockers. The only drawback is how crowded they get at this particular gym from 5-7pm.

My first class I took at this time was an aqua fit class. So that means wearing a bathing suit. I am a little too modest to strip to nothing in front of 30 people I have never met before. I found a shower stall, had plenty of room, was more comfortable, and didn't hinder other peoples abilities to change.

Normally, if it were just changing to gym clothes, that would be completely different. You basically get down to what you wear to the beach and then add more clothes. And I am perfectly fine with that. Not to mention, it is a lot faster than wriggling into the suit.

Coming back into the room after class, I was greeted by a completely naked person hunting for their swim suit just out in the middle of the room. It's not as if I haven't seen naked people before, it's just, I wish they weren't so "Here I am!" about it. They are changing as if no one else is even there. I just think there should be some courtesy exercised when making these choices.

While I was changing out of the swim suit in the locker room, I was apparently blocking a locker to two people. I was willing to wait and let them get what they needed, but no they insisted I finish up. Great... Now I have an audience. Nothing like that to make you feel completely at ease.

I don't know if this is my own weird take on this, but oh well. There you have it, more sharing for you. :)

Movie Theater Etiquette

I recently had the opportunity to go to the movies to watch Shrek the Third. I haven't been to the movies much lately and if and when I go, it's usually during the day because it's cheaper and less crowded. Well Rob and I had the discount tickets I purchased from work that gets you into any movie after it's been out 2 weeks at a cheap flat rate no matter when it's showing. Shrek the Third was the first evening movie we have been to since I think we were in VA together which is almost a year ago. Whoa time flies...

In any event, I had never been in a noisier theater in all my life. It started off fine, but then a couple joined our row that decided to repeat almost everything, at a normal voice level, that was being said on the screen. No lie, ask Rob. Also, the brigade of about 20 children that came in during the previews and the antsy toddler that wanted to sit in 3 different seats in front of us. There was always background noise in the theater and not just laughing from a scene or other reactions to the movie, but conversations.

I know that kids sometimes don't understand the whole be quiet principle, but what are they doing out at a movie that starts at 9pm? Most of them were 10 and under ages and when I was that old, my bed time was 8pm and there were never any late night movies. Times change I guess.

I know I paid a discount rate to see that movie, but for 2 people to watch a movie these days it's close to $20 and I would think you would want to watch the movie, not listen to other people talk about it. I am just wondering at what point it became ok to do that? Did movie etiquette change? They still have the animation from 10 years ago with the little film guy telling it's not ok. Maybe before the movie starts, they should just start giving people the same thing they put on dogs when they don't want them to bark. I think I will stick to my matinées. Sometimes I feel so old.
