I believe in Murphy's Law. Sometimes that belief is a little stronger during those periods when I am actually experiencing that law take effect. This week has been one shinning example of it.
To know a little bit about this week, I have to tell you a little bit about last week. I traveled to Ft. Worth to train someone how to do one of my job duties. I was asked to come out there because this person was bored and needed something to do. Conveniently, I was looking for a person to take this project due to additional work tasks of my own. Hooray! It was perfect timing.
Fast forward to this week. Monday started well enough until I got an email from Rob telling me about his dad. It was just one of those hair raising experiences that you don't expect. Thankfully, he is ok, but it leaves you with that shocked kind of feeling that can be a little tough to shake.
I was given some snarky attitude by someone when I asked for a new valid charge number. He was treating it as if I didn't know any better and when it turned out I was right, there was no apology for earlier comments made. This same person ran a meeting I had over lunch which is on my own time. He showed up late, didn't accomplish anything during the meeting and failed to come up with a good plan for anything. Thank you for wasting my time. You have a nice day too! Jerk.
Later that same day I received a note from a guy in Ft. Worth telling me that the trip I took last week was basically a waste of my time. There is a union issue and I have to take that project back. Wow, that lasted less than one day. Great...
Tuesday I was greeted by a barrage of emails telling me that I need to put together charts for a meeting my boss was having with the program director. Umm... ok. I was supposed to magically sort through data I haven't seen before to get them. Oh and we need them by noon today. GO!
Wednesday morning, I have another email telling me - URGENT chart check. I am supposed to call my supervisor ASAP that am. Great. I notice my boss has changed numbers on the charts I made. I don't know if they are typos or if it's a formula I didn't calculate well. I am still waiting for that conversation. Honestly, I have no idea what's going on there.
Later that night, I realized that instead of paying my car payment this month, I paid a credit card. Hooray bill pay. I thought this was ok until this morning, when I realized I paid it to a card that currently has a zero balance. I did manage to straighten that out, but it's just like icing on a very nasty cake.
While working at my desk today, my computer threw up and popped open about 50 random windows of stuff. I have no idea what happened. I called the help desk and they didn't know either. I figured it was a sign to go home. I left work at 3pm today. I figured it was best for all involved. Let's hope tomorrow goes better.
